Why Frameworks and Components

Why do we specialize in the use of Java framework and component technologies? Simply put, we can get a better job done, faster and less expensively than without them. In virtually every other technological field, components have been the standard for some time. When a manufacturer wants to make a television set, for example, they don't re-invent the picture tube every time, or come up with new connectors to plug in the cable or the antenna. They use existing components wherever possible. That's not to say there is not innovation, and that new components are frequently required - just like in software. Even these new components, however, are designed to interact in standard ways with other components as much as possible - this makes the task of creating a new television mostly a matter of assembly, not invention. Putting the same pragmatic approach to work in software realizes great benefits, including development times faster by orders of magnitude than before, higher quality, and lower costs.
